"Kako izgledam?"

Gore, riževa polja, kaotične podobe mest sredi prometnega zamaška in tihi gozdovi v meglici. To je njihov izgled. Vaša naloga je, da pogledate bližje.

Looking 6x3

6 photographers, 3 photos each, 1 specific look

“How do I look?” This is the question all photographers get asked the most, and fear the most. Some will say you look amazing, others will tell you that you look happy, sad, nervous, afraid, unfocused. Others will even try to convince you that you have never looked better in your life. But curious as it might seem, from Brassaï to  László Moholy-Nagy, from Robert Capa to Douglas Fairbanks, from Man Ray to Korda, most photographers have never been able to describe any particular or specific look.  From the father of modern photography, André Kertész, who turned his gaze from barren flat landscapes and moved it to the random people he would find on the streets of Budapest, from the travelling diaries of Richard Avedon in Texas to the immediate quirkiness of Diane Arbus on the streets of NYC, photographers have been trying to put into print what your mirror shows you on any given Sunday, or what any horizon holds secret/hidden. From the old Photomaton Studios of the last century in each forgotten town around the world, from Carlos Relvas in Portugal to Chichico Alkmim in Brasil, photographers have been trying to capture the perfect, or imperfect, look, but have simply been unable to describe it.

Horst Friedrichs, João Carlos, Valeria Galizzi, Tiago Sales, Sivan Askayo and Celso Colaço, 6 of the best European photographers fascinated by what the camera can show or transmit (and transform), have travelled around the world from the oranges and reds of Timbuktu to the greys and yellows of Lahore or Wadi Rum, from the dance salons of underground MOD London and Buenos Aires to the heights of fragile skyscrapers in Hong Kong and Dubai, to find how people look like, and what they look at. This is their story and their particular view on what the eye can see. Bikers, tailors, musicians, writers, rockers, athletes, all staring into the camera.  Mountains, rice fields, chaotic cityscapes at rush hour, silent forests in the mist, empty beaches. This is their Look. It’s up to you to look closely.
